I still can’t believe Akira Toriyama is gone. It’s been nearly 8 months now and I still haven’t gotten over it. Dragon Ball was one of those things as a kid that I was able to connect with others over. Up until middle school at least. Although I wasn’t allowed to watch much anime because it aired on Adult Swim’s “Toonami” block. Dragon Ball is one of those though that seems like it’s never really gone away. Like One Piece was big for a while, I didn’t hear about it for a bit, then all of a sudden it becomes popular again. Same thing with Hunter x Hunter. Dragon Ball was always big though.
Naruto’s been a joke for years now, and it’s probably deserved. I wouldn’t know, I don’t watch much anime. Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon were just huge for me as a kid. I still kinda like it I guess, I dunno. I’ve never seen so many people come together to mourn someone’s loss like I have Toriyama, though. He clearly touched the lives and hearts of so many people. His influence is alive in many ways, too. Ever heard the word “brolic” before? Probably not, it’s New York slang for someone who is muscular or strong. The word comes from the Dragon Ball character Broly.
