I have a lot to say.
First off. Crazy to think that Texas went blue, never seen that before in my life. I’m disappointed in Tennessee but I know it’s the gerrymandering doing it’s job there. Alabama electing a trans woman is a major surprise. Tennessee next please?
I was 18 when Trump got elected for a second term in 2024. I was scared an unsure what was going to happen to me as a trans person who’s already spent several years hiding her identity, having to hide it for a few more. I know I’m still probably going to have to hide it here, but I have a glimmer of hope, a small glimmer of hope just for a little bit.
The fight is not over, the fight has barely even begun. We joke about all these things like yeah Arabic pronouns in the email signatures, making JD Vance go by she/they pronouns but we need actual change in this country. Change that won’t happen with Hakeem Jeffries as the speaker of the house.
We need ICE abolished. Not defunded, ABOLISHED. There is no place for a gestapo in America. Too many innocent lives have been taken, too many families have been separated. Enough is enough.
We need to stop funding Israel. Israel has been committing a genocide since 1948. I do not want to live in a country that’s complacent in such genocide anymore. Palestinians are dying, and American politicians, Democrat and Republican, are funding it.
A lot of democrats threw trans people under the bus to get elected. We can’t let any of them continue to do so if we want change in this country. We need elected officials that protect queer rights, protect indigenous rights, protect the rights of people of color, protect the rights of the American people instead of the billionaire Epstein class.
I do feel hopeful today for the first time in a while. It’s a small glimmer of hope, but I feel hope nonetheless. No going “back to brunch.” This shit isn’t over. We can’t sit on our asses and let them not do their jobs like we’ve been doing for the last 20 years.
The future can be brighter if we work towards it.
